Want To Save Money Each Month? You Can Do So By Installing Blown In Insulation In Your Attic

If you want to save money each month, making sure your home is well-insulated is one way to do this. One area you may forget about is your attic. If it is not insulated well, air can get into your attic, and then the air will get into your home. Your HVAC unit will then run much longer to maintain the temperature inside your home. One method of insulation you can use is blown-in insulation. Below is information about this, as well as three types of insulation materials you can choose from.

Blown-In Insulation

Blown-in insulation can insulate your attic much quicker than other types of insulation. This is something you could do on your own but would be done much faster if you hire a professional insulation company to do the installation for you.

Before the insulation company will start, they will first seal up all air leaks inside the attic. They will do this by using spray foam. Leaks are commonly found around perforations in the ceiling, plumbing pipes, or any holes that may be in the attic where wiring is installed.

The company will then install a vent chute. If you already have a vent chute, the installer will make sure it is in good condition and properly installed. The attic hatch will be covered manually with insulation to prevent air leaks. This insulation is much thicker than the other insulation that is blown into the attic.

The insulation company will then determine how much insulation your attic needs by doing measurements. A special blower is then used to blow the insulation into each area. A tube is attached to the blower, and the tube is placed where the insulation is going to be blown. The blower machine is turned on, and the insulation comes out of the tube.

Insulation Materials

There are different types of insulation materials you can choose from for your blown-in insulation. One type is fiberglass insulation. This type is made of sand and glass and works great for attics. Fiberglass insulation is fire- and pest-resistant. You also do not have to worry about this insulation to rot as it will not absorb moisture. The insulation also prevents moisture from leaking into your attic.

Another type available is cellulose insulation. This type is eco-friendly and is safe if the insulation comes into contact with your skin. This type is made of recyclable newspapers. The paper is first shredded, and then it is treated with a fire-resistant material. The chemicals used when making cellulose insulation are borate and ammonium sulfate, which prevents pests and mold.

Talk with an insulation company like All Weather Shield Inc, and they can give you much more information.
